A little Detroit fashion history ->
The Buco Jacket | Detroit Vintage Royalty
“Buco” was the brand created by the Joseph Buegeleisen Co., founded in Detroit in 1933. They started out by creating saddle bags and other motorcycle accessories, and began producing leather motorcycle jackets in the 1940’s. Detroit’s own Joseph Buegeleisen Co. was one of the pioneers of the motorcycle jacket. Schott Leather created the first one in 1928, and Indian Motorcycles produced the “ranger” for men and the “rangerette” for women in the 1940’s.
With four signature styles, the J21, J22, J23, and J24, Buco jackets are rather intricate in design, and are made from Horsehide. Their popularity during the 1940’s and 50’s help explain the value of a vintage Buco in today’s market. Expect to pay at least $800 for a vintage Buco.
